Looking for 101st Airborne - "Filthy Thirteen" - D-Day Troop Carrier Squadron Information
Hello Everyone!!
I was researching some information about the 101st Airborne - 506th PIR Pathfinder Group - "The Filthy Thirteen" and wanted to pose a question here on the forum. On the night of June 5, 1944 the "Filthy Thirteen" took off from Exeter Airfield in England to be dropped into France prior to the main invasion force. I wanted to ask if anyone knew what Troop Carrier Squadron was carrying them on D-Day?? Would anyone know the answer to that one?? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Sincerely, Mark Copeland |

Found that 96th TCS/440th TCG was transporting the "Filthy Thirteen".

Re: Looking for 101st Airborne - "Filthy Thirteen" - D-Day Troop Carrier Squadron Information
Hello
On D-day the Filthy Thirteen were not a pathfinder group but HQ demolition platoon in the 506th PIR. They were carried into Normandy by a C-47 from the 440th TCG - 96th TCS - A/C #42-100920 - Chalk number #21 in serial 16 pilot : 2nd Lt Murphy James J. You can look at my website for the serial http://www.6juin1944.com/assaut/aero...e.php?page=s16 and pictures http://www.6juin1944.com/album/airborne/index.php

Hello
Yes, "6Z" is correct http://www.6juin1944.com/assaut/aeropus/en_9tcc.php And the tail letter for the plane carrying the Filthy 13 was "L"
