Bf 109 parts in the coutry surrounding the WNF "DIANA" assembly plant in Tisnov

Dear all,

To widen a bit the theme of late-war Messerschmitt production, here two links illustrating what can be still found now in the coutry surrounding the former WNF "Diana" tunnel assembly plant, near Tisnov.

http://www.dolin.estranky.cz/fotoalb...945/diana-2007

Between main and tail wheels and those paint flasks still full with original RLM colours (!), what amazes me the most are the fuselages spars still used as fences nowadays! Great! For a full history of the DIANA works, please refer to Janda, A. and Poruba, T. (2004), Messerschmitt Bf 109G-10/U4, Production & Operational Service, JaPo). For a full account of this totally amazing paint find, check out here:
http://www.letletlet-warplanes.com/2...w-discoveries/

The second link shows a lot of metal skin from Bf 109's; as I do not master Czeck, I cannot tell you where it was found.

Any such occurrences in the Vilseck-Amberg-Schafhof area still extent nowadays?

Cheers
Marc

Hi!

Here is another good one on DIANA:

Also...interesting to note that on one of your links, it shows the wing cover for the MG151/20 Gondola. No G-10 with the gondola were built at DIANA...so interesting to see that. I suspect it was something planned?

Servus Marc,

go her for information concerning Amberg-Schafhof - menu "Bilder":

http://www.flugplatz-amberg-schafhof.de/

Nowadays most parts of the airfield are occupied by industry and a newly-built Autobahn. Just yesterday I passed this area in bus and nothing is visible any more.

49.398155,11.974025 (Google coordinates)

"Diana" seems to be a very lonely site and until 1989 it had been behind the Iron Curtain. The aluminum material seems to have been collected after the war to be used again. The communist system seems to have prevented this whereas in the west everything went into the furnaces to be re-used.

Intersting the two-track tunnels. Better suited for production than the narrow Wertheim tunnel...

Regards

Roland

Hello there Mike,

Thanks for your precision regarding the MG 151/20 gondola fairing, I didn't notice it. I've checked already the other site sometimes ago but couldn't find it again. Thanks for the reminder!

Roland,

Thanks for the coordinates, I just cheked them out. Sure, the Autobahn eats it all up... Difficult to check the location out whilst biking ;-))

Agreed, having a Hungarian mother, I am well aware life was very different behind the Iron Curtain. I'm just glad that the "time capsule" effect preserved so many traces next to Tisnov as a testimony of all those machines built under strenuous conditions in those wide tunnels...

Cheers
Marc
