Unknown Saenger Project
Apparently, the Americans discovered a report at the DFS and had it translated. Actual drawings of the aircraft in question appear near the end of the PDF document linked from this site. What is extraordinary is that it mentions a diffusor and a power output of 60,000 horsepower. (NACA TM 1106)

Re: Unknown Saenger Project
Dear Ed,
Lots of math in this one. If one wades through to the testing, it does tell a little bit about the testing of the Lorin duct first on trucks, then supposedly towed aircraft, and finally on Do 17 and Do 217 aircraft. I think the Lorin ducts in these Do 17/217 tests tended to push the aircraft faster than they were designed to go, thus the final proposal for an aircraft specifically designed around the Lorin duct. Re: Unknown Saenger Project
Dear Richard,
It appears that two further developments grew out of this, a more refined fighter proposal and a fighter type aircraft attached to a 1000 kg bomb, both with a lorinantrieb for propulsion. The latter being the Blohm & Voss P 214. Regards, Ed |
