My original thread centered on trying to identfy the crew of the II./KG51 JU-88A Shot Down on 11-April-1941, and in particular the Beobachter.

From the very welcome input from the '12 O Clock High' community I was able to learn of the details of the unit, crew, aircraft and breif circumstances of Helmut Saure's death. For this I am very grateful.

This thread was posted simply to see if there was any additional information to glean, now that his final unit had been identified.

I fully apreciate that this may be a 'needle-in-a-haystack' scenario however, to find the answer you frequently have to ask the question.

As I said, I fully appreciate the help given however, from my point of view it is still worth asking if there is anything else to be learnt on this man.

Regards Richard.

Steve

I will gladly post as much as I know on Leutnant Helmut Saure when I have exhaused all avenues.

I have his award documents from his service time in III./KG4 up to Sptember 1940, which is a very nice grouping with some very good RKT signatures.

I was pleased to find out his KIA details and am now looking to find any additional information that I can.

Regards Richard.

Hi Richard -

If you are willing to "fib" a bit and disguise your purpose, you could try and obtain copies of his Personalkartei and perhaps even copies of his Personalakten from BA-MA Freiburg. They will not deal with collectors, but you might have a good chance if you indirectly suggested that you need the information for an article you are preparing for an academic journal or such. Your chances would be even better if you hired one of the fee-for-service researchers who live in Freiburg. BA-MA maintains a list of these individuals and prefers to work with them than directly with the foreign researcher. Just a thought.

Hi Richard, very interested to know he served with III/KG4 during 1940.
This is my period of interest, particularly the Battle of Britain.
I would be most interested in your efforts to establish further information on Saure in due course.
The very best of luck in your research.

Best regs,
Steve.

Thank you for the advice reference obtaining further information on Saure.

I have been able to find out some basic information on him over the past few days and when the short term avenues are exhausted I may well indeed take your line of attack and dig deeper.

Thanks again.

Regards Richard.
