Oskar Helbing
Looking for any info and photo about Oskar Helbing from either 12/JG5 or 9/JG5. Helbing was shot down over Austevoll near Bergen on January 15th 1945 by Tse-Tse Mosquito Z1 / 288 piloted by F/O Peacock.
Helbing was approx 20 years old when he was shot down. Kindly reply to trond.hagenes@marsteinen.no |

Helbig, Oskar: Uffz, 9/JG-5, Fw 190A-3, Werk # 2172 "White 14" (lost), Fighter Operational Clasp, Collided with another aircraft 15 January, 1945 during aerial combat near Herdla Norway, pilot disposition unknown. L. |

Not quite correct. Heling was "rescued" from his plane after crash landing near Melingsvarden, but has been fatally injured by the aiming appliance inside the cockpit. He died from the injuries and is bured on Solheim grave yard in Bergen.
The engine has been taken to Herla Museum together with the wreck of an A2 FW 190 (gelbe 16) that was fished up from the sea outside Sotra a few years ago. Exhibition is being launched next year in May. http://ktsorens.tihlde.org/flyvrak/austevoll.html |
