Gruppenkommandeur III./SG3 on 12-Feb-1944 Question.

I am currently researching a DKiG Vorschlagliste to an Uffz. Darsow of 8./SG3.

As part of this research I an attempting to find the identity of the Gruppenkommandeur of III./SG3 on 12-February-1944.

http://www.ww2.dk/air/attack/sg3.htm

Lists the post as being filled by Hptm Heinz Hamester, 31.12.43 - 15.6.44

http://www.lexikon-der-wehrmacht.de/...hwader/SG3.htm

Lists the post as being held by Hauptmann Eberhard Jacob, 1. Dezember 1943 - Mai 1944.

Can anyone shed any light on this question?

Any help will be very gratefully received.

Regards Richard.

Re: Gruppenkommandeur III./SG3 on 12-Feb-1944 Question.

In our recent book "Dive-Bomber and Ground-Attack Units of the Luftwaffe" SG 3 is covered in Volume 2 (to be released March 2011) we note that there is contradictory information about who was the Kommandeur of III./SG 3 at the time in question. Our officer personnel career notes indicate that the Kommandeur at the time of 12.02.44 was:

Major Bernhard Hamester (DKG, RK) (31 December 1943 – 15 June 1944)

However Brütting and Obermaier indicate that it was:

Hptm. Eberhard Jacob (RK, DKG) (1 December 1943 - April 1944)

We cannot yet resolve this conflict. Perhaps someone out there has a source of new data or and insight to clear this up. At this point. Hamester is our best guess.

Gruppenkommandeur III./SG3 on 12-Feb-1944 Question.

Doug

Thank you for your reply to my request.

I am still interested whether anyone can shed any more light on the question of the Gruppenkommandeur of III./SG3 on 12-February-1944 and also help with the identification of the signature which I have attached.

As the signature has the abbreviations below: m.d.W.d.G.b. = mit der Wahrnehmung der Gesschafte beauftragt (Temporary charged with affairs) the signatory may well of been 'standing in' for either Hamester or Jacob.

As always any help will be very well received indeed.

Regards Richard.

Gruppenkommandeur III./SG3 on 12-Feb-1944 Question.

I have been informed that the signature is (possibly) Fritz Eyer.

Fritz Eyer was former Staffelkapitän of 6 Staffel and won the following:

Honour Goblet on 1.6.1942 as Oberleutnant u. Staffelkapitän
German Cross in Gold on 25.9.1942 with III/Stuka-Geschwader 3

He was Gruppenkommandeur III./SG3 in 1945.

If anyone can still answer the question of the Gruppenkommandeur III./SG3 on 12-Feb-1944, it will be very gratefully received.

Regards Richard.
