Hi Charly!
I do have it, but the book is not with me now...maybe in the meantime, somebody can help you. IF NO, I will have a careful look in about 21 days, when I will be home.

Re: 30:/31. March 1944

Hello Charlie,

According to Lorant/Goyat book only Lt. Willi Trabert of 9./JG 300, flying a Bf 109G-6 from II./JG 27 took to his parachute after air combat with a Lancaster approx 01:15 southeast of Bamberg, Germany.
The nachtjagd lost also 2 Ju 88 and 7 Me 110F/G nightfighters.
I found these in M.BALSS book: Deutsche Nachtjagd.
Please send me PM with your email adress for further information.
Kind Regards,

Dirk

Re: 30:/31. March 1944

Charly,
I guess I got what you were looking for...
First the information about the Halifax ( to other members who must be reading the thread ):
Halifax HX272 Information

TypeHalifaxSerial NumberHX272Squadron433X1DBM-NOperationNurembergDate 130th March 1944Date 231st March 1944

Further Information

"Serial range HX265 - HX296. 32 Halifax Mk.111. Part of a batch of 150 HP Halifax Mk.11/111. HX147-HX191; HX222- HX225 Mk.11; HX226-HX247; HX265-HX296; HX311-HX357 Mk.111. Delivered by Handley Page (Cricklewood & Radlett) between 16Nov43 and 2Dec43. Airborne 2149 30Mar44 from Skipton-on-Swale. Approaching the AP at 21,000 feet shot down in flames by a night-fighter, crashing near Friesen, 10 km SE of Bamberg. Those killed are buried in D_rnbach War Cemetery. P/O C.M.Nielsen RCAF PoW F/S W.F.Rost RCAF (P2) KIA P/O C.W.Panton KIA P/O D.McL Awrey DFC RCAF KIA WO2 L.V.Milward RCAF KIA WO1 H.Cooper RCAF PoW Sgt J.S.Thompson KIA WO2 J.G.McLaughlan RCAF PoW P/O Panton had two younger brothers, Fred 13 and Harold aged 11. In 1981, the two Panton's bought the airfield at East Kirby and seven years later purchased Lancaster X NX611 as a Memorial to their dead brother. At the time this veteran bomber was in a dilapidated condition but by Oct95 it had been splendidly restored to such an extent that the aircraft could be taxied on all four engines It may be viewed at the Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre; (01790) 763207. WO1 H.Cooper RCAF was interned in Camps L6/357, PoW No.3642 with WO2 J.G.McLaughlan, PoW No.3460. P/O C.M.Nielsen in Camp L1, PoW No.4154. "

Then, from an old thread of mine MORE Luftwaffe losses on 30/31 March 1944 ( I do have the book The Nuremberg Raid by Martin Middlebrook; but there were some losses not recorded on it...so I asked on this Forum for help and fortunately kind people with access to the right books/DATA helped us ):
Junkers Ju 88 C-6, werknummer 360272, from 4./NJG 3 ( I do not have the codes ), shot down South of Nuremberg ( between Moggendorf and Hollfeld ), some 10km SW of Bayreuth ( probably shot down by defensive fire from a 426 Squadron Halifax )
Bf 109 G-6, werknummer 411079 ( White 7 + ) from 7./JG 302 ( Uffz Erwin Volkel - KIA ) shot down and crashed near Hildburghausen.
Bf 109 G-6, werknummer 411460 ( Black 4 + ) from 8./JG 302 ( Obfw Friedrich Hill - KIA ) shot down near Lischeid, between Treisa and Ziegenhain.

This is what gentle people sent me on an old thread ( question about LW losses that night ). I am sure YOUR claim must be one of those three Bf 109 G-6 losses recorded here...just check the place of your combat and the local of crashes googloing.

With my kindest regards and wishing you GOOD LUCK to trace down what you were looking for.

A friend ( From BRAZIL )

Re: 30:/31. March 1944

DIRK,
I checked the places of Luftwaffe crashes and losses, and YES, it seems your machine is that of Lt. Willi Trabert from 9./JG 300 indeed.
The name of the person who helped me on an old thread about LW losses that night is Steve. He supplied me with the 3 losses I pointed out to you.
I do not know if you have find this site, but have a look at it:
http://www.jg300.de/me-109g-14as-lt-willi-trabert.phtml
All the best.
Adriano

Re: 30:/31. March 1944

Hello Adriano,

Yes I know this site, and visit it frequently. Good site, nicely build up, especialy with the historic background and colorful side drawings of the planes used by the pilots.
I'm still not sure who of the two pilots (Trabert/Seuss) shot down the Halifax. I received a copy of the pages regarding this loss from M.Middlebrooks book 'The Nuremberg Raid' where the pilot of the Halifax stated that they were hit underneath by "Schräge Musik'. So could it be possible that Trabert was hit by debris of the bomber at the moment Seuss started his attack?
Anyway, Dr. Theo Boiten states in his book that Lt. Seuss shot down the Halifax. Perhaps he can give us more information?
Al the best,
Dirk
