Re: Me262 VI+AC VK+IZ

Well VI+AC is WNr. 130003 the V 8. VK+IZ is more intruiging since I have no Stammkennzeichen Block that indicates a Me 262. The only one that is close is a Do 317 V 1 with the Stammkennzeichen VK+IY. Typo maybe? The only other Me 262 could be VI+AZ. Very strange indeed.

Regards,
Norbert

Re: Me262 VI+AC VK+IZ

V8 Norbert ? interesting because Ballerstedt refers later explicitly to V8 no more to VI+AC, so a bomb-truck this one , maybe the same for the VK+IZ appearing as E2+ or E7+ but all these ones hv known STKZ....
Flights in June 44 at Lechfeld, the 2 quite the same day,
Open treasure all these ones Dan,

Remi

Re: Me262 VI+AC VK+IZ

The E2+ or E7+ could be short lived as they may change as the ship gets destroyed or transfered. The Stammkennzeichen is rather permanent.

E2 is Abteilung Flugzeuge (aircraft) and E7 is Abwurfwaffen (bombs) for the different sections of the Erprobungsstelle Rechlin. So bombers makes sense.

There was a VI+AR with E3+01 code though (Jun-44). And KI+IR was E3+03 (Aug-44).

Hope Dan has the answer,

Norbert

Re: Me262 VI+AC VK+IZ

Walther Ballerstedt was employed by E7 at this time. I had the pleasure of corresponding with him on a small number of occasions before his death in 1990. He was kind enough to let me have copies of the entries from his (only surviving) Flugbuch containing details of his flights from 8 Feb 45 to 31 Mar 45. He recorded some of his experiences with the Me 262 in Rechliner Brief Nr.14. The most interesting section, a graphic description of his final flight in an Me 262 on Saturday 31 March 1945 at Rechlin-Laerz is quoted in the excellent book 'German Secret Flight Test Centres To 1945' by Christoph Regel et al. No Stkz. is given in his Flugbuch for the crashed machine but he appears to list it as Red 5. He also refers to the V8 as the V8 in his Flugbuch for 1945 flights.

Steve

I have a copy of his flugbuch 6 starting from 1/3/44 to the end date you list, this considerably predates your part copy
