Trivia
I served under this commander in RVN during 1966. He is the only fighter pilot to have downed an acft from each of the three Axis powers during WW2. Anyone want to make a guess?
Hint: He retired as a Maj Gen in 1973. Roy |

Re: Trivia
I thought it might be (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robin_Olds ), but the rank is wrong.
I was at Korat RTAFB for all of 1967. L. |

Re: Trivia
Roy
No idea who you are thinking about, but since he sounds American he cannot be Clive Caldwell, who certainly claimed and no doubt scored kills against both the Germans, Italians and Japanese in WW 2 and to me at least is the most well known individual to do so. Cheers Stig |

Re: Trivia
MGen Levi Richard Chase, Jr
Additionally from the source I found he was one of three (3) aces to have shot down enemy aircraft of all three Axis Powers. Also: Lt Col. Louis Edward Curdes (one of the three) Regards Jeremy |

Re: Trivia
Spanferkel,
You are correct. I errored in saying he was the only one, since he was one of three. The following link is the web site his son established in his memory. I have a few pleasant memories of him when I served in the 12th TFW in '66. He was a real throwback warrior who was a fair, but stern leader. http://homepage.mac.com/techase/LRC/ |
