May 19th 1940 - Kethel, The Netherlands

Does anyone have more info on a He 111 of KG 54 that apparently crashed or F/L at Kethel, north of Schiedam, in The Netherlands on May 19th 1940? There is no mention of this loss in Radtke's book.

Thanks in advance,
Rudi.

Rudi,

I know of no such loss. KG54 experienced several losses on that date but they were operating over the Arras - Tournai - Lille area. If an He111 did come down at Kethel on May 19, 1940, (as suggested by the Studiegroep but not listed by Brongers I notice) then IMO it is more likely to have been a III./KG4 aircraft.

I would suggest Rethel, France near Reims.
Would fit better in the area of operations of KG 54 at that day
and in Radtke's list at page 344.
Could be a reading error in the original document. R for K?

Jaap

Thanks Peter & Jaap for your input. Very much appreciated.

My source is indeed the "studiegroep SGLO" so I think we can rule out Rethel, France. Just wondering where they got this info from and I was hoping someone else had more data about this loss.

Regards,
Rudi.

Rudy

Thank you for you confidence in the "Studiegroep SGLO".
I am a member of this group and when I look at the data
I think someone has made a reading error.
I will send your question and the data of Peter and myself
to the responsable people inside the Studygroup.
I also will report the outcome here.

Jaap
