Rowlands 213 Sqn

Hi gents,

I'm of the understanding that F/L HR Rowlands (Aus402404), 213 Sqn, claimed a Ju88 in either late '43 or early '44-the period he was posted to 213 as a flight cdr-but have no further details.
Any info would be appreciated, including the serial & codes of his aircraft. He was KIFA 25/3/44 in Egypt and awarded the DFC (4/44).

Cheers, Bruce

Re: Rowlands 213 Sqn

Fl/Lt Harold Rowland Rowlands claimed a Ju-88 on Oct 18, 1943 at 0933, 20 m, 220 deg from Castelrosso Island. He was flying Hurricane IIc HL912 "C". From the ORB, and Sortie and Combat Reports in Air 27/1318 frames 118 and 119.

Frank.

Re: Rowlands 213 Sqn

Thanks Frank-most helpful. I believe 213 Sqn actually claimed several Ju88s in the same engagement-out of a formation of 12?-and I'd be interested in the final tally-and also how many a/c of 213 intercepted.

Re: Rowlands 213 Sqn

Hi Bruce

My records show that 213 Squadron engaged 12 Ju88s of II/KG6 and claimed three shot down - one each by Rowlands, P/O R. Jackson and W/O P.C. Haslam - plus one probable. Haslam's victory was apparently 213 Squadron's '200th confirmed'. Jackson got '201' and Rowlands '202'

Actual losses were 3E+CM flown by Uffz Karl Lilienthel and 3E+AP flown by Uffz H. Walter. Perhaps someone can provide crew details?

Hope this helps

Cheers
Brian
