Kurt Heinz V/K.G.2

Hoping someone may be able to give me some more info on Kurt Heintz (DKiG & RK). Gruppenkommandeur of V./K.G.2. Died in a crash at Lydd ranges in '44. Was he flying an Me410? (unit codes?), was he shot down in air combat, flak or other cause? Also any other unit he was in and mission total.

Thanks for your time and consideration.

Re: Kurt Heinz V/K.G.2

Good Evening,

This is what I found in Ulf Balke's book: "Der Luftkrieg in Europa 1941-1945":

(FF) Hptm. Kurt HEINTZ - kia -
(BF) StabsFw. Otto RUNGE - kia -
(410A-1,U5+WJ)(103313)
Combat with F/Lt. Luma of No.488 Sq. - crashed Lydd Ranges, Kent.
Runge was also wearing the DkiG.

Kind regards,

Dirk

Re: Kurt Heinz V/K.G.2

Lou Luma was with 418 Squadron, not 488, and his claim that evening was near the Steinhuder Meer.

Re: Kurt Heinz V/K.G.2

Guys

I have a problem here. I cannot locate this Me 410, and I don't have Balke's two books about KG 2.

The book The Blitz then and now vol 3 says the WNr was 2338.
Balke says (as per quote below) WNr 103313

I cannot locate WNr 103313 in Petrick/Stocker's book about the Me 210/410, but WNr 2338 is there but with no further details what so ever.

1) Which is the correct WNr?
2) Where does WNr 103313 fit in?

Cheers
Stig

Re: Kurt Heinz V/K.G.2

The WNr. 103313 is bogus - no others from that range appear anywhere.

Me 410A-1, 2338, HEINTZ, Hptm. Kurt, 300+, Stab V., KG 2, , U5+WJ, GF+CR, , 22-Jan-44, Gr.Kdr. Crew KIA due to Luftkampf with nightfighter from 488 Sq. (F/L Luma) during sortie to London., F RK. Both DKiG. WNr. 103313 on 21/22-Jan-44 per Balke., Kanal, Balke, Der Luftkrieg in Europa, II, p.477; The Blitz Then & Now, Vol.3, , Lydd Ranges, Kent, 100%, F, Bf Stfw. Otto Runge, ,

Re: Kurt Heinz V/K.G.2

Thanks Guys

Really appreciate your feedback.
Strange that Balke is quoting such an odd number. He usually is right on the spot....

Cheers
