He 111 landing mishap

Hi all,

attached is a picture of a He 111 which is dated march, 1940.

Does anyone have more information about this mishap (exact date, place & unit of the aircraft)?

Thanks in advance,
Rudi.

Re: He 111 landing mishap

OK, easy bit - somewhere cold....!!
None of the propeller blades look bent, and from it's position by the side of an embankment, it looks like it had an undercarriage failure whilst undergoing maintenance perhaps.

There doesn't appear to be any damage from strafing or attack by fighters, everything looks in otherwise good condition so it's not being stripped for spares.

Look like a railway line, perhaps the style of overhead posts may pinpoint a Country...

Coded "E" and looks solid camouflage with small pale stripe near the tail might help better identify where and when and the unit.

Re: He 111 landing mishap

Hi, Rudi...

Also think it's an He111P - no airscoop on right side of engine cowling, which would make it an 'H' sub-type.

Regards,

Paul

Re: He 111 landing mishap

Thanks Paul & Icare for your inputs. Very much appreciated.

The propellors look indeed undamaged, but the aircraft did destroy the fence with it's left wing. So it was probably taxing at the time of the mishap.

Does anyone has another picture of this mishap, which shows more details about the tactical code?

Regards,
Rudi.
