Friedrich May, 3./JG3
On Tony wood's site but also according to a number of sources, Friedrich May was killed around Rouen 22 October 1943.
He was part of 3./JG3 which was equipped, as far as I know with Bf109 G6, but the sources say he was flying a FW 190 A6 ? Is this a mistake ? Apparently, he was shot down when fighting against RAF (Rodeo 263), does anyone know more about this fight, viewed from the Luftwaffe side ? (there are a lot of accounts viewed from RAF) |

Re: Friedrich May, 3./JG3
Ofw. Friedrich May was actually a member of 3./JG 2 rather than JG 3, hence the Fw 190A.

Re: Friedrich May, 3./JG3
Thank you again, do you know which units, how many aircraft were involved in this combat from Luftwaffe side ?
From the RAF, there was 41 and 91 sqdn (Spitfire Mk XII). They claimed 9 E/A for no loss against "30 FW and Me-109" Here is an account of the fight : http://www.spitfireperformance.com/spitfire-XII.html |

Oberfeldwebel Friedrich May
Hello jeanba
It appears that the opponents of 41 and 91 Sqns, RAF were I. and II./JG 2. I./JG 2 lost two Fw 190 A-6 fighters and three Bf 109 G-6 fighters as well as three pilots killed (including May) and one injured in aerial combat with Spitfire and P-47 fighters. In return they filed one claim for a Spitfire by Oberleutnant Georg Schröder. II./JG 2 lost two Bf 109 G-6 fighters and one damaged as well as one pilot killed and another injured in aerial combat with Spitfire fighters. In addition, one Bf 109 G-6 and its pilot were lost due to unknown causes, perhaps or perhaps not, due to this engagement. They filed no claims on this occasion. I hope this helps. Horrido! Leo |
