Maj.Helmut Weinreich

Good Afternoon,

In Willi Reschke's book about the history of JG 301/302 "Wilde Sau", Kdre. Weinreich was killed during a crash landing in the night of 18/19-11-1943.
He was a RK-holder gained after 320 FF as an Oblt. and St.Kap. in III./KG 30. Does anyone knows which Staffel he was leading? And the time-period? Thanks in advance,

Dirk

Re: Maj.Helmut Weinreich

Thx Chris.
He received the RK on 22/1/43, so it seems that he left 7. shortly after he was awarded.

Re: Maj.Helmut Weinreich

From our notes we have:

WEINREICH, Helmut.
(DOB: 24.09.17 in Lenzen/Ostpreussen).
1940 in III./KG 30.
07.40 7./KG 4. - according to Kracker.
22.01.42 Oblt., awarded DKG, III./KG 30.
1942-43 Oblt., Staka 7./KG 30.
19.02.43 Hptm., in I./KG 30, appt provisional Kdr. I./KG 30 (to 09.43).
21.01.43 Oblt. and Staka in III./KG 30, awarded the Ritterkreuz after completing 320 combat missions.
c.10.43 trf from bombers to the Jagdwaffe.
10.43 Kommodore? JG 301. - according to Kracker.
18.11.43 Maj., in II./JG 302 KIA – in Fw 190 that blew up while attempting to land at Rhein-Main after sustaining damage in an engagement with an RAF bomber.
Posthumously promo to Obstlt.
Credited with more than 320 combat missions and at least 1 night victory.

This would appear to agree with Chris and DDT that the unit was 7./KG 30.

We hope that the above clarifies things.

Re: Maj.Helmut Weinreich

Hi Doug,

Thanks for your answer. For the moment I'm reading Willi Reschke's book. Here he writes that Helmut Weinrich became Kdre of JG 301 on 19/10/43 when the Stab was created in Neubiberg.
Kind regards,

Dirk
