Re: Ju 290 transport
Hi,
Welcome to the forum... ![]() For starters, you could try this address: www.warbirdphotographs.com Scroll down slightly on the first page and click the green link, which will take you to the Luftwaffe photos, then scroll until you find Ju290, under 'Transport', I believe. This site: www.luftarchiv.de is in German, but there is a small Ju290 selection of photos as well. If you don't understand German, follow these links on the left-side menu: Motorflugzeuge; Extra Menue, Junkers and then point your mouse over the small ^ arrow at the top of the selection list, and it will auto-scroll the Junkers menu for you, until you reach the Ju290 link. There is also a lot of very good information on unit codes and Staffel/Gruppe/Geschwader I/D colours on this site, too, via these links: Luftfahrtindustire, Kennzeichen, Motorflugzeuge, 1939.1945. If you have any questions, just ask. This Russian site: www.wp.scn.ru can give you an idea of typical colour schemes. Select the following links for Ju290: WWII - bombers from the top of the page, scroll down left-side menu to Ju90/290/390, then in the centre of the page, a nationality list of user-countries will appear. Select Germany, and then on the right side of your page a list of examples will appear. Click on the page number on the right side of this list, and the colour plates will load in a few moments. Other sources are available in print, so you can try Midland Publishing (in the UK) or Christian Schmidt's (in Munich, Germany) online outlets, or any good bookshop. Of course the same can be said for any aircraft you're interested in. You can often get lots of information here on this forum, or the likes of LEMB - www.luftwaffe-experten.org Most contributors will be happy to help and there are oftentimes plenty of photos already posted on the various sections for you to have a look at. Hope you enjoy being part of the crowd... ![]() Regards, Paul Last edited by obdl3945; 13th June 2010 at 18:54. Reason: Spelling! PS: if this post is showing partly in purple, I have no idea why! |

Re: Ju 290 transport
Your best bet is to try and source a copy of the book Die großen Dessauer. Junkers Ju 89, Ju 90, Ju 290, Ju 390 by Karl Kössler and Günther Ott. I think it's currently out of print but copies are easily and cheaply enough accessed via www.Amazon.de.

![]() ![]() At prototype V5 the wing changed it's shape. ![]() At v7 the Ju-90 got wider span wings and the Tappoklappe tail ramp. The V7 had eliptical tail fins. All prototype or early production Ju-90 can be differentiated from Ju-290 by their round fuselage portholes. Ju-290 had rectangular windows. ![]() A series of Ju-90 prototypes were cancelled and used for conversion to Ju-390. When Ju-390 production ceased on 3 July 1944 for the Emergency Fighter Program, Junkers was paid compensation for seven Ju-390 airframes. There was in addition a run of production Ju-90 Z2 for Deutsch Luft Hansa and Ju-90 Z3 for South African Airways (J900002 & J900004). Ju-90 V11 (J900011) became Ju-290 V1 and Ju-90 V12 became Ju-290 V2 (werke nmr J2900001 & J900151 respectively). These were the first Ju-290 A1 up to J900156. Ju-290 A2 ran from J900157 to J900159. Ju-290 A3 ran from J900160 to J900164. Ju-290 A4 ran from J900165 to J900169. Ju-290 A5 ran from J900170 to J900180. Hitler's aircraft was the A6 which is reported to have escaped to spain at war's end flying from Finsterwalde. Ju-290 A7 ran from J900181 to J900196, however two J900182 and J900183 were stripped of gun turrets, given extra fuel tanks and re-engined with BMW 801E engines for clandestine flights deep inside the soviet union and perhaps also to Manchuria. These two were redesignated as Ju-290 A9. The A8 were J900212 and J900213. the latter was flown as the Letov L.290 Oriel after the war. Last edited by Propellerhead; 24th July 2010 at 13:55. |
