He111 D-ALIX

Hi guys

I'm seeking date and crew details of clandestine He111 D-ALIX that crashed in the Soviet Union prior to the invasion of June 1941. Can't seem to find anything on the net.

Cheers
Brian

Re: He111 D-ALIX

Not He 111 c / V2 D-ALIX, that one crashed in Gambia, Africa 12.3.1937. Rather D-ADAG (He 111 H/P model) that is pictured twice in Thomas / Ketley (Hikoki) "KG 200" p. 31.

P.27 of same book tells of more than 500 flights over USSR. An order was given by Soviets NOT to be fired at (later orderes were issued for shoot dows). 1.(F)/Ob.d.L operated from Cracow, 2.(F)/Ob.d.L from airfields in Romania and Bulgaria and 3.(F)/Ob.d.L from Hamina, Finland. Only loss mentioned is Ju 86 D-APEW 15.04. (P.28)

Check this better. I now run out of time.

Re: He111 D-ALIX

Thanks again, Ed

So was D-ADAG the aircraft that crashed in the Soviet Union? If so, when did this happen?

Cheers
Brian

Re: He111 D-ALIX

Just back home. No, I did not say it was shot down, sorry if I gave that impression.

In fact I do not know of any other loss than the Ju 86 D-APAW (stated f.e. in that book I referred too), but as I pointed out earlier, there were other types. He 111 D-ADAG was probably just one of those.

Re: He111 D-ALIX

Thanks Ed

I note on the Axis Forum website that it was D-ALIZ that crashed in the Soviet Union!

Is this correct?

Cheers

Re: He111 D-ALIX

Hi Brian,

Ah, in Axis History Forum posting (i.e. "Arvo L.V.") is mostly referring from already published works, and does in fact NOT give year as 1941 (note is actually to year 1936).

Never heard of this He 111 registration before (it´s not in my lists). In my opinion please approach these "facts" with caution, thread is from year 2003, revived in 2006, then going dead (without further comments on D-ALIZ) in 2008.

In my opinion, without further hard evedence:
Put ? after He 111 D-ALIZ

There are replays worth reading, especially regarding Finland, as these are really interesting. However this thread mostly refers to already published works ...

F.e. this post: "by Karte on 19 Nov 2008, 15:02
Yes I do have some data on crashes and emergency landing over the Soviet Union. In fact on several occasions the camers and film were recovered by the Soviets and this data was presented to Stalin who did nothing with it. Beginning in April 1941 the volume of recon sorties over Soviet areas greatly increase as orders were to monitor airfields, and key transportation/communication junctions as a frequent basis. By this time most of the sorties were flown by "regular" recon units vs. Rowehl's group. Only a some of the data I have is "new data" or "unpublished". There are bits on the air crashes of pre Barbarossa flights in Hitler's Spies by David Khan."

Usually I do not read much of such works (and never seen title qouted abowe), so can not really comment. I have re-checked the recorded Ju 88 losses in my files, many were flying with the (F)/Ob.d.L units, both before and after Barbarossa, but nothing out of the ordinary stands out.

However I am also of an opinion, some more research might turn out something. Especially if Soviet records can shed more light on these.

Best regards
ed

Re: He111 D-ALIX

Thanks again, Ed

I happen to have a copy of HITLER'S SPIES but nothing of much interest within.

At least I know more than I did before, thanks to your help.

Cheers

Re: He111 D-ALIX

BTW such a crash of He 111 had place, I have read in one of a book (do not remeber title, it was some times ago). It was conected with German reccon flights over Russia, but it was before the war of 1939. This case had happend over Caucas or Krim area. Spy plane was from Roewhel unit (not yet officaly included into Luftwaffe). It was civil plane adopted to make photos by German, early civil version of He 111, handed over to this unit.
Germans had made spy/reccon flights over Russia since 1934 not only after WW II (1939-1941).

Regards,
mw
