Bf110 E-1, Werk Nr. 3863

Major Erich Groth crashed with his plane 12.08.1941 in the mountains i Hallingdal, Norway. His plane was reported missing as Werk Nr. 3863. Recently the attached photo was taken at the crash site. I am not certain what this plate tells us. If it is the Werk Nr, it certainly not is 3863. Or is this plate the engine plate? I hope one of you experienced guys out there can help solving this one?

I see no indication of any W.Nr.

However, the picture reveals that the plate remains firmly attached to something - what is that?

Re: Bf110 E-1, Werk Nr. 3863

Thanks for the answers!
The plate was photographed and then unfortunately removed from the wreck last week, after 69 years in the open, and snow covered from October to June!
The guy who took the picture tells me that the plate measured ca 3x5 cm and was fastened towards the edge of a reasonable big part of the fuselage and near to or at the other side of some hinges. He thought it might have been a door or covering of some kind.
This part must have been retrofitted, becuase the plane was manufactured in the fall 1940 while the Weserflug part was produced i February 1941.
Does this info give a clue?
