Luft Ballon; this is not a Nena's song
Hi everbody,
This is the translation of German airflied war diary. This base was located in France in 1944. “During the day intense enemy reconnaissance activity . At about 22:00 very intense enemy reconnaissance activity in own and neighbor area. There have been about 20-30 aircraft passing our Horst (airport) in different height several times and they have been also taken under fire by AA unit. It was reported that one aircraft dropped 2 red ballons, they drifted in eastern direction". Did someone know what these red balloons were . -Weather balloon dropped by a reco plane over a well defended German air Base ? - An unknow (for me) allied tactic or system (pyrotechnics like flares) ? -Red balls of fire in an other term Foo Fighters ? Thank you for your help Guy |
