Track Aircraft History from Work Numbers ?

Hi

Is it possible to know the history of an Luftwaffe Aircraft from the Works No ? for example any documentation that can be referred to track an aircraft right from the production stage to the commissioning of the Aircraft to the Squadron or Group to may be end of war or decommissioning or Marked as missing or Lost ?

Any help on this matter will be helpful.
