Hs 129- what is this marking?
I just happened across this photo of a German Hs 129 "tank-buster". What is the odd marking on the nose? I thought at first glance it was a spot where it had been hit by a shell, but it doesn't look right. It almost looks like a seal or insignia, with "laurels" (or whatever they're called) around the outside, and an object across the middle...either a large gun(?) or a plane, or god-knows-what. Is this a faded unit insignia, perhaps, or a symbol to show a decoration the pilot earned? Like the Soviets would put special symbols on the planes of pilots who won the "Hero of the Soviet Union" award? Any ideas?

Re: Hs 129- what is this marking?
It is Infanterie-Sturmabzeichen (Infantry Attack Badge) often sported by Schlachtflieger, in this case a Hs 129 B-2 with MK 101 under the fuselage.
