He 177 over Middle East in 1942 ???
Hi,
In some combat report written by pilots of GC 1 « Alsace » in Middle East (Lybia) for summer 1942, they often identified their “bandit” as a He 177 ! Are there units of He 177 over Middle East or are these a/c certainly Ju 88 ? TIA, Bertrand |

Re: He 177 over Middle East in 1942 ???
The He-177 was referred to as the Algeirs bomber and was intended in theory to be able to bomb Algeirs from Germany and return.
http://photos.mercantilemarine.org/m...=675&g2_page=1 Mentioned on this forum previously: http://forum.12oclockhigh.net/showthread.php?t=17422 The aircraft may have participated in convoy attacks in the mediterranean or alternately have been used for reconnaisance perhaps? I have not found mention of the He-177 in the area however earlier than Nov 1943. |
