WALTER SCHUCK

I have just heard that Oberleutnant Walter Schuck, formerley of JG 5 and holder of the Knight's Cross with Oak Leaves, has just suffered a severe stroke. Does anyone know anymore than this. Perhaps Horst Kube could confirm this for us!

I hope these are just rumours and not fact!

David

Hi David, how old are your infos? As far as I know he had a slight stroke some month ago, but he was in Speyer at the Flugzeugteilebörse on 15/16th of October and is invited to show up in Wendover at Aces High Gallery by end of November. Maybe you have other news?
Cheers, Horst

Re: WALTER SCHUCK

Hi Horst,

Thank you for the news. I received the info 2 days ago but didn't know how recent the information was!

It sounds as if the stroke was only minor which is very good news.

Thank you again,

David

I was at Aces High last Sunday, and they are saying that Walter is due to attend on the weekend of 20th/21st of November along with Col Joe Peterburs LM DFC who on the 10th April, 1945 shot down a Luftwaffe Me 262 jet fighter which was being flown by Walter Schuck.

Ironically later that day Joe was himself shot down by enemy ground fire. After baling out he was captured but managed to escape and remarkably joined up with a Russian tank unit, fighting with them for the rest of the war. He also flew combat tours in Korea and Vietnam and retired in 1972 after almost 37 years of active duty.

Also in attendance will be Dame Vera Lynn. Hopefully all is well and he will be there, as whilst flying on the Arctic Front Walter and other pilots would risk serious disciplinary action by tuning in to the BBC, just to listen to Vera Lynn. At this event Walter will fulfil a life long ambition by meeting Dame Vera for the first time.

Re: WALTER SCHUCK

I met and spoke to Walter Schuck yesterday, he was in superb form and appeared to be in good health. He was happily signing prints and books with Joe Peterburs, who was also running about like a fifty year old. Good news.
