Hurricane P3888
Hi,
I'm working on a listing of all aircraft that have crashed in Fife, Scotland. At the moment I have just under 300 incidents raging from 1921 to 2006. I have a 56 OTU Hurricane P3888 as having crashed near Ladybank after hitting HT wires on 11th July 1943. On looking through the 'net for further info I find that this same Hurricane was reported as having been lost through a coliision while with 310 Sqn on 9th September 1940. My info comes from Air Britain serials P1000-P9999. Any idea if there has been a serial mix up somewhere? P3887 and P3889 also served with 310 Sqn but they were lost in August and October respectively. Regards, Alex

Re: Hurricane P3888
Hi Tuck,
Thanks for the history of the Hurricane. I had assumed that after the collision and the loss of the pilot the aircraft was a write off. But as you have shown it was repaired and went on to serve for almost another 3 years. I don't as yet have a pilot for its final flight on 11/07/43. Alex

Re: Hurricane P3888
Sergeant Mervyn Cyril Barnes RAAF 405566, is recorded by the No.56 OTU ORB, he was in formation with another aircraft (serial unrecorded) piloted by Sergeant C.F. Bryan RNZAF 411366.

Re: Hurricane P3888
Hi Alan,
Thanks for the pilot details, much appreciated. Excellent website by the way. Keep up the great work. I may try and do something similar with the info I get on the Fife crash sites. Alex
