Uffz Hugo Pankuweit 3./KG2

Uffz. Hugo Pankuweit was BF of a Do.217M-1 of 3./KG2 (U5+IL; wnr 56122) piloted by StFw. Wolk. Pankuweit was killed during a raid on Hull on the night of 13/14 July 1943, when he bailed out or was thrown from his aircraft following a collision with a British nightfighter. His body was subsequently found at Sunk Island and was later buried in the Northern Cemetery, Hull. Does anyone have any more precise details of Pankuweit and his crew that they are willing to share?

Bill: No doubt you have been asked the same question by Joe Potter. Like you, I only have what is in Balke's book from a German perspective and nothing matches up from the RAF side in respect of a collision

Chris, the other way round, actually: I asked Joe. Like 'Slipper of the Yard', he too is on the case. My enquiries hope to help Pankuweit's brother, with whom I have been in touch. Bill

More like full circle! I wonder if he was thrown from the aircraft-looking at Willum Hoy's report for a damaged that night, they must have been thrown about a bit as the gyro instruments had toppled. Of interest, no mention of a collision but Beaufighter had been slightly damaged by pieces of e/a in particular the landing light
