Trying to identify a Hurricane pilot

I am trying to identify a pilot photographed in a Hurricane, and the occasion (time, place) when the photo was taken.
I have posted the photo here:

Re: Trying to identify a Hurricane pilot

Well, the background doesn't look very British to me, so a Russian pilot in Soviet Union could be a possibility.

Re: Trying to identify a Hurricane pilot

Look at the Flypast site.

I think it is F/Lt Jack Ross - 134 Sqn in his Hurricane IIB in Veanga, Northern Russia - September/October 1941.

Background looks very much like veanga.

Hillocks
Small silver birth trees.
Post were for the construction of the aircraft hides.

regards

Mark
