III / STUKA 135

hi,
I have just found a german leather map case dated 1938 with a nice stamp of the unit :
III / STUKA 165 . ( not 135, its a mistake in the title )

I don't manage to find anything about this on the net ?
Could you help please ?

thanks

Granville

Re: III / STUKA 135

To answer your question, I quote from Volume 1 of our book "Dive-Bomber and Ground -Attack Units of the Luftwaffe":

III./St.G. 165

Formation, Training, Re-Equipping and Re-Designation (April 1937 - April 1939) Formed on 1 April 1937 at Fürstenfeldbruck using a cadre from II./St.G. 162 and new personnel. Initially equipped with Hs 123s, it was supposed to have started conversion to Ju 87 As by mid-1937. With the completion of the base at Wertheim, the Gruppe moved there from Fürstenfeldbruck on 1 October 1937, while still equipped with Hs 123s. As of 1 April 1938, it had 34 Hs 123s at Wertheim and was still based there on 1 November under Lw.-Gruppenkommando 3. On 1 May 1939, it was re-designated III./St.G. 51 at Wertheim and had finally been equipped with Ju 87 As and Ju 87 Bs.

Kommandeur:
Hptm. Anton Keil (October 1937 – 30 April 1939)
Hptm. Heinrich von Klitzing (? – 30 April 1939)

We hope that this helps
