III./KG77 Unterstab?

I have recently purchased a set of documents to a Fliegerschutzen who served in (among other Geschwader) KG77.

The document for his promotion to Oberfeldwebel lists his unit as 'III./Kampfgeschwader 77 - Unterstab'.

I have not seen the 'Unterstab' unit designation before, to that effect can anyone shed any light on this?

All help will be very well received indeed.

Regards Richard.

III./KG77 Unterstab

Thank you Frans for the information on the Unterstab.

The Fliegerschutzen in question received the FFS in Silber in July-1941 while serving in 8./KG77 and his Oberfeldwebel promotion in September-41, by which time he is serving in III./KG77 Unterstab.

There is then a gap in his documents until his Discharge papers in 1944 which state that he has lost a leg above the thigh.

This leads myself to the conclusion that between July and September-41 he was wounded leading to the removal of his leg and subsequent service in the Unterstab, or have I jumped the gun here? Would he of required a longer period of convelesence?

As always any help at all will be very well received.

Rgards Richard.

III./KG77 Losses

In the hope that I can research this KG77 Fliegerschutzen as in depth as possible, I am looking for the help of the membership here that have access to the Luftwaffe QM Returns from 1941.

If anyone can look for any III./KG77 losses in between July-1941 and September-1941, which lists the crew members accordingly, I might be able to ascertain the details in which he lost his leg.

The Fliegerschutzen in question was (eventual) Oberfeldwebel Horst Fischer, who I know flew with both 7 & 8./KG77.

As always any help will be very well received indeed. Hopeful in anticipation.

Regards Richard.
