stamps on an aircraft parts: does it come from a Junkers88 ?

Good morning all,

please find hereattached pictures of a hook I found with factory stamps on it.

I believe (but am not sure) it originates from a Junkers88: could these stamps ("MD234" and "CV") confirm (or dismiss) this idea ?

Thanks and cheers

Gilles

mmmmmmmm...I would say German for sure, due to the inspection stamp...but no way to prove Ju88...

Did you find any other Ju88 parts?

Hi Harrison,

yes I did find other parts and you will see them on the pictures.

If it is German, it is definitely a Junkers88 since it is the only type of German aircraft that went down in this remote area,

BUT:

in the same area, in the 70's, a Mirage V crashed as well.

so, the question becomes :

do these parts come from a JU88 or a Mirage V ?

the airframe parts inclined me to go for JU88 but the small red condensator in the last picture is definitely more "Mirage like" . (it is much more recent)

maybe the two aircraft crashed on the same site ? (quite incredible..)

What do you think ?? Thanks for your opinion on this maze..

GC

Could MD in the inspection stamp be a short of Marcell Dassault?

Mike,

Overall, I trust your judgement on things Luftwaffe, but that inspector's stamp doesn't register as WW2 German to me. Also don't like look of the part painted yellow with thin red line - something about those colors. And beware of anything showing pale blue - I believe a color similar to RLM 65/76 was used by the French Air Force on jets of that period. The square red cap with black text looks relatively modern too.

I am not ready to declare these parts - certainly not all - WW2 German.

Anything new to report Gilles?

Steve

Indeed, these parts are very very likely to belong to a Mirage 5 that crashed at the same place. The red square part is a condensator that was clearly built in the 60's and not during WWII.

So, we can say (99 per cent) these are Mirage 5 parts, thus confirming Matti's idea that MD could mean "Marcel Dassault".

As a french man in TOCH forum, I should have had this idea: shame on me!

anyway, I shall go back on this site next May 8 and I bet I shall bring back more Mirage 5 parts;

and, if lucky, some JU88 parts too ?? I shall keep you posted.

Best regards

Gille
