Focke-Wulf Fw 190 F-9

Hello skiner

The only other Fw 190 F-9 that I can think of at the moment is Fw 190 F-9 "Green <o" (W.Nr. 440 401) of Stab II./SG 10 which was flown to Neubiberg on 8 May 1945 to surrender to American forces. About the only way to identify this subtype is through the werknummer. I hope this helps.

Horrido!

Leo

Re: Focke Wulf 190 F9

Hello Skiner. I have some information you will find helpful. The Fw190 "Green o>" may not be a 440121-440580 block aircraft. These 440121 series all have the W,Nr painted in a tall thin stencil on both sides of the tail. "Green o>" has no W,Nr. visible. Also the fuselage of "Green o>" is not from the correct fuselage supplier. When you examine photographs of the real 440121-440580 Fw190s you will see that only two distinct fuselage paint designs are seen. one fairly straight accross, the other wavy with a sharp triangular dip at the end of the dark upper color avoiding the area where the cross is painted. The "Green o>" has a stripped fuselage. Behind the demarkation of the upper camoflage colors there are two stripes of dark color painted 45 degrees from verticle on the lighter upper color. These fuselages are found on Dornier, and Arado built Fw190s.It is possible the tail was changed with a used one.I could be of more help if I knew which aircraft you wish to model. Looking at the photos you display I have a question for you. if you would like, could you tell me who owns the photo of 440340 with the landing gear leg collapsed?

Thankyou.
MARK VIII

That photo can be found on page 219 of Air War Italy 1944-45 (Beale, D'Amico & Valentini: Airlife, 1996).
