Hi Brian,

some answers :- ( from Lufwaffe Q.M. Loss Register)

06/09/42: Ju.86R-1 (5101) of 2(F)/123 Belly landed after combat with
60% damage. No crew injured or named.

09/09/42: Ju88 (430166) 4U+FK FTR from sortie to Port Said.
Crew- Lt.Gerard Pichler; Fw.Fritz Lehmer; Oblt.Werner
Westermann; Gef.Wilhelm Hess all MIA

also on 29/08/42 Ju.86 (5144) ditched in Med with engine failure, as
no crew named I presume they were rescued by Axis forces.

I'll see what i can find out on the others.

Cheers

Re: Lw recce aircraft losses Med 1942/43

Hello all,

regarding L1+NL Peter Taghon writes in "Die Geschichte des Lehrgeschwaders 1", that the mission flown on the 24th was not a recce but an ordinary atack on an airfield (Flugplatz Bir Hooker), flown by I./LG 1.

There´s a short notice wich roughly translates: The Ju 88 A-4 L1+NL of Oblt. Walter Machazek is persecuted by 73. Sqn W/O Ernest Joyce. She takes a lot of hits and crashes at 22:45 hours near Burg el Arab, south-west of Alexandria. Only Bordfunker Uffz. Heinrich Wankmüller and Bordschütze Walter Schulze (no rank) survive and become POW.

Ju 88 A-4; L1+NL; Wnr. 140093; FF Oblt. Walter Machazek missing; BO Uffz. Alfons Kontek missing; BF Uffz. Heinrich Wankmüller POW; BS ? Walter Schulze POW

Hope this helps a little

Norbert
