LUMA fighter Grid Conversion Program Question

Hey all --

I've used LUMA for several years to place fighter grid coordinates on Mapquest maps, with success. The program is also supposed to convert these coordinates to conventional latitudes-longitudes, and vice versa. I haven't been able to do this -- the light blue lat-long fields can have numbers entered in them, but then nothing happens. The numbers don't seem to link to anything. Has anyone else had this problem? I'm probably missing something obvious, but it might be a Mac thing.

Any answers appreciated.

Horrido!

Don

Re: LUMA fighter Grid Conversion Program Question

Hi Don !

Nice greetings from me the modest person
who developed LUMA.
I am very sorry that it doesn't work well !!!

Problem #1
Maybe instead of entering directly the red numbers
you could also try to left-mouseclick into each respective
red numbered field. Then a little grey square opens to
the right lower corner. If you click this little grey field
you should be able to select the given number
and the result changes immediately.

Problem #2
I don't know, I guess that Mapquest did change their
internet address system, so LUMA is a bit outdated. :-(
But take this congenial link:
http://toolserver.org/~geohack/

You can enter here the LUMA geo coordinates
then must also enter the correct N, S, W or E for
the geographic directions.

And then do it ! >>>>>> click the field "Do it". ;-)

You will be given a great choice of diverse maps
all with your coordinates.

bye-bye, best wishes, hope this helps,
FrankieS

Re: LUMA fighter Grid Conversion Program Question

Hi Frankie --

I'm sorry that I wasn't clear. Getting from the JMN coordinates to a MapQuest map is not a problem. What I'd like to do is enter geographic coordinates and get the JMN coordinates. I can enter numbers in the light blue geographic coordinate fields (below & right of "Position to Grid.") I think that these should change the JMN coordinates automatically, but they don't -- they don't do anything. And the numbers in the dark blue fields can't be changed at all by the user, which I think is probably the way it should be.

Sorry if I'm being a dunce.

Re: LUMA fighter Grid Conversion Program Question

Hi Don !

I just checked all this, but for me it functions fine.
Don't know why you don't succeed !?

Only the red numbers to the right of the ENTER field
should be filled. Did you try to enter by left-mouse
clicking every light blue field and then taking the
grey scroll down fields?

bye, good luck, maybe some others would like to
respond to this thread about their experiences.

best wishes,
FrankieS

Re: LUMA fighter Grid Conversion Program Question

Hi Don/Frankie,

Don, if you are using a newer version of MS Office, does the workbook show that it is working in 'compatibility mode' - the title bar at the top should show the workbook name 'LUMA.XLS (compatibility mode)'?

Any Excel workbook with code written in VB can experience issues if the code was written using, say, Excel 97-2003, but is used in a newer version of Excel.

Cheers

Rod

Re: LUMA fighter Grid Conversion Program Question

Hi Rod, Thanks for joining us. I'm using Excel 2004 for the Mac. My LUMA.xls doesn't say "compatibility mode", and I may be SOL. Microsoft is notorious about disregarding reverse compatibility, but I'll see if I can't load the program in another, earlier mode. Any other Mac people out there?

Re: LUMA fighter Grid Conversion Program Question

Hi Don,

it is possible that it is a compatibility issue, especially if you are using Office for Mac. I've seen a few issues in Visual Basic compatibility just between Windows versions, and usually the only way to straighten it out is to use the VB editor to debug and edit the code...

Cheers

Rod

Re: LUMA fighter Grid Conversion Program Question

Hi Rod,

One thing more. Les B is having the same problem, and he's got a PC running an updated Excel 2003. I'm hoping Frankie will take another look at this.
