Re: Mosquito victory on the 01/02.02.1945
Melvin,
For reference, Berlin is at 52°30′2″N 13°23′56″E (Wikipedia) British twin-engine claims that night: He-219 dest, 1905-1913, 10 m E of Bonn, 25 Sqn (doubt this is yours) Ju-88 dest, 1910, F.0555, 2 m SW of Rheydt/Munchen Gladbach, 219 Sqn (ditto) Me-110 dest, 1910, 49-19N, 09-02E, 85 Sqn (ditto) Ju-188 dest, 1945, 49-35N, 07-00E, 406 Sqn (ditto) Me-110 prob, 2045, 15 m N of Koblenz, 50-30N, 07-30E (ditto) possible jet, 2239, N of Brussels, 515 Sqn (very doubtful) I don't see any good candidates in that list. All claimants are Mosquito XXX except the jet, which is a Mosquito VI. Enjoy! Frank.

Re: Mosquito victory on the 01/02.02.1945
Hi Melvin,
I assume that you are researching one of the four Bf110s of IV./NJG5 or Bf110 of III./NJG5 that were recorded as lost on 1 February 1945. Four are recorded as being lost due to enemy fire and the fifth to aircraft armaments fire. To the best of my knowledge the IV./NJG5 aircraft were all involved in ground attack operations in the Küstrin area on the Eastern Front. The III./NJG5 aircraft crashed near Königsberg-NM, but it is not clear if it crashed during the day or night. I suspect that it was during the day. The KTB of III./NJG5 records that on the 1 February 1945 crews were ordered to fly day-time ground attack sorties against the Soviet bridgehead across the Oder, between Kienitz and Gydoweise, 15 km NW Küstrin. Another III./NJG5 Bf110 was lost on 2 February 1945 during a day-time ground attack sortie. Cheers Rod |
