Luftwaffe cover for Sevastopol evacuation, May 1944

Hi all,

Can someone write me which units were involved in cover of the Wehrmacht evacuation from Sevastopol to Romania in 9-12 May 1944?
I am looking especially for II./ZG 76, possibly only 6th Staffel info? (but not only).
Thanks!

Re: Luftwaffe cover for Sevastopol evacuation, May 1944

I have good info (losses and claims) of II./ZG1 and VVS regiments, involved in air combats.

But nothing about ZG76.

Re: Luftwaffe cover for Sevastopol evacuation, May 1944

Nightfighters of NJG 100 and possibly NJG 6 were also used to cover Crimea evacuation.

Details availble in this book (I have it at home but I am not there):
http://www.librairie-ac.com/fiche/19...promotion.html

You can also find some data in the book "Seaplanes over the Black Sea: German Romanian Operations 1941-1944" (same as above for me)

Thanks guys!
According my info and memo of one former ZG 76 member, they were there for only 4 days, and suffered one loss...
But as I see, it is not very well know fact...so research needed
Anyone can add some details?

Re: Luftwaffe cover for Sevastopol evacuation, May 1944

here is what I have for II./ZG 76 in the Luftwaffe losses summaries:

No loss between 1 and 9 May reported

10 May 1944:
one damaged without enemy action on operational flight

11 May 1944:
one damaged by enemy aircraft on operational flight
one damaged without enemy action on operational flight

13 May 1944:
one damaged without enemy action on operational flight

14 May 1944:
one aircraft missing
one damaged without enemy action on non operational flight

Next loss on 21 May

So one aircraft of II./ZG 76 was hit in an air battle on 11 May 1944. On this date no Allied aircraft flew over Austria, where II./ZG 76 was supposed to be according to my sources.

On 14 May 1944 15th AF was busy over Italy, so the II./ZG 76 loss might be there, but I again think it unlikely.

Hope it helps

Laurent

Re: Luftwaffe cover for Sevastopol evacuation, May 1944

Back home, i checked the two books cied above.

No loss of bf 110 reported in "Seaplanes"

The Nachtjagd book has a Ju 88 C-6 WNr 360351 of 2./NJG 100 shot down by AA in Sebastopol area on 10 May, Lt Rainer Wolf and crew MIA.

Nothing about II./ZG 76 in these two books
