Oberfeldwebel Heinz Gossow

Hello guys

Oberfeldwebel Heinz Gossow (12 victories, RK) of 1./JG 302 was wounded in aerial combat with fighters in Bf 109 G-6 (W.Nr. 20 599) on 11 January 1944. Would someone have any additional information such as location and whether or not he bailed out and the type of enemy fighters regarding this incident? Many thanks.

Horrido!

Leo

He parachuted (Fallschirmabsprung), "bei Nordweide"

I do not know which type of escort fighter was involved.

Oberfeldwebel Heinz Gossow

Hello Thomas

Here is what I have been able to find so far on this ace. Note that there is some confusion about which bomber unit(s) he may have served with and even when he received certain awards. Some aspects of his career are unclear to me such as when was he posted to JG 7 among others. Any corrections or additions will be most welcome. For what it is worth I hope this helps.

Re: Oberfeldwebel Heinz Gossow

Hi Leo,

Thanks for the link!

This is what I have:

-On June 22, 1942 Gossow flew the 2,000th mission of 6./KG53
-June 1942 transfer to 14./KG3 (Flypast, Sept. 2008, Chris Goss)
-DKiG Fw. Gossow, Heinz II./KG53 November 5th, 1942 (Veit Scherzer)

I can not double check the first two points, but do know that not all can be right. If he was transferred in June '42, this must have been in the last week (after the 22th). How could he then receive his DKiG in Nov. '42 with II./KG53? Was he transferred back to KG53?

Chris is on this forum and maybe he could help with the transfer date. could it be '43 instead of '42? What is his source for this date?

Kind regards, Thomas

ps. I send Chris a PM.

Leo, for some reason the download doesn't seem to work for me. Would you be kind enough to post his photo/s.

Thanks,
