Pilot Officer Herbert Capstick - 236 Sqn

He was the only Jamaican in the Battle of Britain flying on Blenheims with 236 Squadron. Unfortunately 236's ORB is devoid of info. I have managed to trace via the auction house the person who bought Capsticks logbooks and photograph albums in 2002 and am waiting to see if I'm able to view the said items.

Capstick flew with Sqn/Ldr Peter Drew OC on 20/21 July, then began flying with Flying Officer William Moore from August to October 1940.

Moore and Capstick escorted a flight of bombers to Ostend in September and they are bounced by '35' Bf109E's could anyone elaborate on this?

Being the only Jamaican flying Blenheim fighters I'd like to include a bit more in my writing for Coastal Dawn - due out early next year.

Yours faithfully,

Andy Bird

No mention in CC Intsum of any combats in Sep 40 of 236 Sqn with 109s

Hi Chris,

Thanks for the reply, I couldn't see any when checking either in DORIS today.

Yours faithfully,

Hi Andy,

Sorry to say I cannot provide any information about Capstick, however, I would be very interested in any details you may have about Moore. Have sent you a PM in this regard.

Regards, Drew

Hi
What a loss to history, hopefully he is not a member of any of the boards I frequent.
Giving out a few details would not have lost any monetary value to his item.

Makes me really appreciate those vets in their twilight years, who give their valuable time to help out researchers.

cheers
Jerry

Hi Andy,
What a shame. I think we have all encountered similar experiences over the years.
Contact me, I have something that may interest you.

I echo what Jerry and Gerry say. It is such a shame when someone has access to such documents that they aren't willing to even share the information they contain.
