SaGr-126

Morning Guys

This is a unit that I know next to nothing about, I have them making seven claims for Beaufighters, but I would be grateful if somebody could provide me with forenames and subsequent fates of the seven claimers, details are:-

28th October 1943
2./SaGr-126 Ofw Hahlbolm 0834 hrs 50 metres

1st June 1944
4./SaGr-126 Ofhr Fritz Rupp, Heraklion area, Crete 1811 hrs 80 metres
4./SaGr-126 Ofw Kurt Chalupka, Heraklion area, Crete 1810 hrs 80 metres
4./SaGr-126 Uffz Hassler Heraklion, area, Crete 1812 hrs 100 metres
4./SaGr-126 Ofw Knorth Heraklion, area, Crete 1810 hrs 100 metres

17th June 1944
4./SaGr-126 Ogefr "Schammer"? 0006 hrs 20-25 metres

6th September 1944
2./SaGr-126 Oblt Rohwerder 1225 hrs 100 metres

Unit is most likely to do with sea search or defence, and all claims are made at extremely low altitude for some reason.

Grateful for any assistance

Kind Regards

Johannes

Re: SaGr-126

Hi

Basic information on the unit:

http://www.ww2.dk/air/seefl/sagr126.htm

and aircraft inventory:

http://www.ww2.dk/oob/bestand/see/bsagr126.html

I guess that Byron or others with a specific interest in the area can provide further details.

Regards,
Andreas B

Re: SaGr-126

Hello Johannes,

1) Ofw. Hahlbolm is incorrect, the pilot`s name was Stahlbohm

FF. Ofw. Stahlbohm, hat am 29.10.43 einen Beaufighter JM 225/W mit FF. Hptm. John Dixon (+), BS. Hptm. George Alec Terry (+), Sq. 47 RAF, südl. Naxos abgeschossen,

2) about the 4 Ar 196 A5 of the 01.06.44:
I doubt the Arado pilots had any success on that day. According to a german war diary of the "Kriegsmarine" and british sources, the only losses of SAAF occured threw antiaircraft guns of the ships.

Bei den Gefechten wurden 1 Me 109 und 3 Ar 196 abgeschossen, 1 Ar 196 beschädigt (227 Sqn);
Das beschädigte Flugzeug war eine Ar 196 A5 (W.Nr. 1960349);
Besatzungen der Ar 196 der 4./126 waren:

FF. Ofw. Werner Kurth mit BO. Ltn. Böckling,
FF. Ofw. Kurt Chalupka mit BO. Oblt. Schäfer,
FF. Ofw. Fritz Rupp mit BO. Oblt. Richter,
FF. Uffz. Hässler mit BO. Uffz. Busse

3) Name Schammer is incorrect, it is Ogfr.Schramm
Here the incident:

17.06.44 beim Schiffsgeleit von „GK 91“, „Aspassia Pi 1090“, „Ioannis Kutifaris Sam.19“, „Maria Vol.30“ und einem unbesetzten Motorsegler auf der Reise von Chania nach Piräus, bei der Kamilli-Bucht,
Ar 196 A5 (D1+AN, W.Nr. 623010) 100% und Ar 196 A5 (D1+FN, W.Nr. 100505) 100% von 5 (227 Sqn) Beaufightern und 4 Blenheims abgeschossen; Besatzungen von den Schiffen ohne Ausfälle aufgenommen.
FF. Uffz. Paduch, Ar 196 A5 (D1+AN, W.Nr. 623010) 100% m. BO. Ltn. Böckling
FF. Ogfr. Schramm, Ar 196 A5 (D1+FN, W.Nr. 100505) 100% m. BO. Uffz. Busse, im gleichen Geleit 17.06.44 wie oben beschrieben. Besatzung leicht verwundet.

4) Oblt. Rohweder was a pilot of 2./126, unfortunately i am not aware of his victory you mentioned.

Hi Byron,
How you come on it the Arados on 01.06.44 were shot. Even in the cunning airplane losses RL 2 III / 846 to the SAGr. 126 these are not performed! Would be nice from you if you to me the springs would call where of this registry became?
