"Natascha - Tochter der Steppe"-Ju-88 Unit Identity

I downloaded this picture from a Russian Website that featured a bunch of Luftwaffe insignia taken by a Red Army soldier who photographed the wrecks on abandoned airfields.

Can anyone identify the Ju-88's unit?

That's the emblem of the Wekusta 26, which operated over the central sector of the Ostfront.

The Luftwaffe's nickname for a meteorologist was "Wetterfrosch" (weather-frog), and several units used a winged frog insignia.

IIRC Westa 26 had an emblem that was an owl (as did 6(F)./122 which was formed from Westa 26).

Is this not Westa 76's emblem

See Ketley and Rolfe - "Luftwaffe Emblems" items 669 and 670

also the relevant unit pages of Kington / Selinger's "Wekusta"

Andy,

You may indeed be right about Westa 76; my first reference was an older source, Ries' Luftwaffe Embleme, which had it for 26, and a different, more recent source stated 76...
