Fw Mattes 2(F)/123

The German Luftwaffe in Greece by Byon has the following entry - Ff Fw Mattes (+) Bf 109 G Resetl. Besatzung (v) bei einer Seeaufklarung 10.7.43 . Is there anymore information/confirmation about this loss please . I could not find it in GQM ,

Re: Fw Mattes 2(F)/123

Brian,

Radeber, Olmert and Schlee - Der Alder mit dem Fernrohr (History of 2./123) has nothing more in the loss list in the appendices except to say "Absturz".

I cannot see anything of relevance in the HW13 files either.

DEFE3/825 covers 10/7/43 - but contains nothing for the Eastern Med on that date.

DEFE3/907 overlaps this but again I cannot see anything relevant in the first 50+ pages.

Sorry that I cannot be more help.

Re: Fw Mattes 2(F)/123

There doesn't seem to be any personnel loss from 2.(F)/123 recorded in Bundesarchiv Rl 2-III/1039 either. I haven't checked for losses from the Staffel on nearby dates but the file is online/downloadable if you want to look further. The page for 10 July is No. 146.

There is a loss from 2.(F)/122 on that page — 4 men missing (including an officer), so I'd guess it was a Ju 88.

Re: Fw Mattes 2(F)/123

Andy , Nick , John and Junker thank you all for your help . It would seem that Byron's entry is in error for aircraft type and date , looking up the GQM entry for 16.11.1942 - Ju 88 D1 4U+FK 430388 2(F)/123 III-1184-0271
Ff Fw Friedrich Griener m- inj. admendment 2.7.1944
B Fw Karl Mattes m-+ admendment 18.2.1943 III-1186-0122
Bf Uffz Alois Härle m admendment 6-12.1942 III-1184-0201
Bs Ogef Mollenkopf m name added 6.12.1942 III-1184-0201

Could not find grave details on the VDK site ,

Thanks Again
