III/JG 51 over Rumania

Hi Folks,

I am wondering if III/JG 51 has lost any planes on September 22, 1944 over Rumania in dogfight with Soviet Boston bombers and Yak escort fighters. Thanks,

Gabor

Re: III/JG 51 over Rumania

Nothing on this date for III./JG 51 (or for JG 51 for that matter) in the summary of Lutfwaffe losses.

The closest I have for JG 51 is 19 Sep 1944 (two aircraft of III./JG 51 destroyed by gunfire from enemy aircraft and a third destroyed on the ground by bombs) and 24 Sep 1944 (one aircraft of III./JG 51 destroyed by anti-aircraft artillery.

Best regards

Laurent

Re: III/JG 51 over Rumania

Afaik, only II./JG51 was operating in Hungary, while III./JG51 was in the area HG Mitte / HG Nord, Southern Baltic states in late summer '44.
Also see here: http://ww2.dk/air/jagd/jg51.htm

The losses due to enemy bombs were due to an air attack on the airfield of Ezere. One A/C from 9./JG51 with Uffz. Hans Bauer was lost in an Alarmstart. Ezere sounds rather baltic to me

Digging a little further... if you really talk about the six Boston-claims by III./JG51 on 22.09.1944: These were in a fight against 1 GMTAP KBF which had 3 losses. KBF stands for "Krasnoznamyonnyy Baltiyskiy Flot".
