Ofw Walter Ebert 8./Jg2 & 10./Jg2
Hi Guys
This was a highly successful Jg2 pilot awarded the Deutsches Kreuz in old Gold on 31st August 1943. He made twenty claims, of which eighteen were confirmed:- 26th August 1940 Hurricane Portsmouth 1735hrs Nr.1 7th September 1940 Spitfire London area u/c 23rd November 1942 B-17 70km north-east of Morlaix 1334hrs 3000 metres e.v 26th November 1942 Beaufighter 1341hrs 50 metres Nr.2 30th December 1942 B-17 1317hrs 1000 metres Nr.3 6th January 1943 Whitley north-east of d'Oeussent 1753hrs 800 metres Nr.4 5th April 1943 Spitfire 1758hrs tiefflug Nr.5 7th April 1943 Catalina 1345hrs 90-100 metres Nr.6 11th April 1943 Spitfire 1645hrs tiefflug Nr.7 30th April 1943 P-51 40km north of Morlaix 1554 hrs tiefflug Nr.8 1st May 1943 B-17 1354hrs tief Nr.9 16th May 1943 Spitfire 1755 hrs 700-800 metres Nr.10 29th May 1943 B-17 1625hrs 5000 metres Nr.11 12th June 1943 P-51 60km north of Morlaix 0948 hrs tiefflug Nr.12 28th June 1943 B-17 1755 hrs 2000 metres Nr.13 6th September 1943 B-17 10km south of Villeneuve 1225hrs 5000-7000 metres Nr.14 6th September 1943 B-17 1235hrs 200-100 metres Nr.15 11th January 1944 B-17 Minden 1131 hrs Nr.16 8th February 1944 B-17 1407hrs 6000 metres Nr.17 22nd February 1944 B-17 8km South of Antwerp 1605hrs 6000 metres Nr.18 First fifteen were with 8./Jg2, the last five with 10./Jg2. Can anybody expalin what happened to him after his last claim on 22nd February 1944, I can find no loss for him after this date, or no actual times he was shot down and survived prevously. What was he doing for two years between claiming on 7th September 1940 and 23rd November 1942? What was his Date of birth?, if he did(as I suspect) survive the war, when did he die. I have little information on Jg2 losses for the first half of 1944, so my second thought is that he may have been lost in the Spring on 1944. Grateful as ever for any assistance. Kind Regards Johannes |

Re: Ofw Walter Ebert 8./Jg2 & 10./Jg2
Thanks Jim
That would expalin his abrupt end to claiming, guess we can assume that he didn't return to combat, or if he did it would have been in 1945, so many old hands that hadn't claimed for a while came crawling out of the woodwork in 1945. Kind Regards Johannes |
