Looking for further infos of crashed He 111 (early version)

Hello gentlemen,

on ebay I found those three photographs:

http://www.ebay.de/itm/Orig-Foto-Ger...item20c3626c20

http://www.ebay.de/itm/Orig-Foto-Ger...item1e6bee1343

http://www.ebay.de/itm/Orig-Foto-Ger...item20c3626c38

showing an early He 111 crashed probably in Poland. The a/c code is hard to read. It could be white "C" or "G". There's also an emblem painted on the nose (not clearly visible on second photo), but I didn't find it in Ketley & Rolfe.
Any info on this crash would be appreciated.

Thanks and regards

Bf 110

Re: Looking for further infos of crashed He 111 (early version)

I saw this one on eBay earlier today, but did not spot the emblem. Many thanks for pointing it out, since it provides a firm answer. The emblem is that of Wekusta 1 (early) and the aircraft is B7+CA or GA. In Barry Rosch’s Luftwaffe Support Units, (2009), p. 19 there is a photo of a He 111 J with this emblem which is claimed to be B7+GA. This aircraft is undamaged, but the prop hub appears to be a different colour scheme than these new pics.

Perhaps an expert on the wekusta units could provide a date and place. Wekusta 1 were active over Poland and apparently retained the He 111 J until spring 1941.

Re: Looking for further infos of crashed He 111 (early version)

Hello Ian,

many thanks for your answer. I have two losses on my database for Wekusta 1 during the polish campaign.

02.09.1939 He 111J, Wekusta 1, shot down by polish fighters near Posen, code B7+BA, WN unknown, damage 100%, FF Oberleutnant Ernst Woyna killed, BO Regierungsrat Dr. Prügel wounded and taken POW, BF Unteroffizier Lötsch killed, BM Unteroffizier Hackl wounded and taken POW

11.09.1939 He 111J, Wekusta 1, shot down by AA fire near Warszawa, code unknown, WN unknown, damage 100%, crew is missed.

May be the second one is the a/c from these pics. Let's see if someone could add more info.

regards,
Bf 110

Re: Looking for further infos of crashed He 111 (early version)

Hi,

Image of B7+FA (in flight) and B7+BA (after crash landing) can be seen in John A. Kington and Franz Selinger's Wekusta (Flight Recorder Publications) on pages 68 & 69 respectively, with an excellent colour plate of B7+EA on page 65.

Might there be a chance, Ian, of the unit insignia being posted here? I'm finding it hard to make out on the otherwise excellent photos.

Kindest regards,

Paul
