Kesselring's He111 shot down by Bf109?
Hi guys
Reading ON SPECIAL MISSIONS by J. Richard Smith, Eddie Creek and Peter Petrick, I note that on page 63 reference is made to Kesselring's personal He111 (P4+AA?) being shot down in error by a Bf109 of JG27 sometime in 1942 (so it seems). Only Kesselring's personal pilot Werner Muffey and Willy Mensching survived. Has anyone details, please? Cheers Brian

1942-08-10, F-Kette/X.Fl.Korps, He 111H-6, 7338, P4+AA, 10 km nordöstlich Marsa Matruh, Absturz in See infolge Beschuß durch eigene Jäger. Bruch 100 %.
Flugzeugführer Lt Muffey, Werner, verletzt Beobachter Uffz Niesten, Heinrich, vermißt Bordfunker Fw Schulze, Herbert, + (Am 1942-08-12 tot angeschwemmt) Bordmechaniker Uffz Mensching, Willi, verletzt Matti
