JU88 4/KG30 4D+AM Jonsvatnet April 1940

Gentlemen!

Just got this picture in the mail box..

The picture shows a JU88 that chrashed due landing on the ice at Jonsvatnet lake in the April days in 1940.
More info is found on Kjell Sorensen great web site :
http://ktsorens.tihlde.org/flyvrak/jonsvatnet4.html

I am looking for the following info:

-Does anybody have the hole wrknr?
-Name of the crew?
-Any casualities (must have been I think because of the turning over)?
-More pictures of the a/c before and on the ice.
-Can anybody read the writing on the back ?(even drunk as a skunk I would never have been abel to write like that)

I have a strange feeling that this a/c still is on the bottom of the lake.On of the pictures on Kjell`s web page shows the a/c beeing partly dismantled , but you could see that it already is sinking.

Cheers!

Part of W.Nr. is there at front of undercarriage leg, but I can not read this, seems first letter might be 2, or 3, or even 8, but then likely one or two more digits that do not show at all. This is too little to even make a wild guess. Sorry, the number could be anywhere circa from 82 (0082) to 209 (0209), if assembled by FZB (Bernburg). But there is still hope that other photos be found that show this from the front and numbers might be read. If anyone has such, I very much like knowing.

Hi Ed and thanks for your reply

On Kjell 's (flyvrak) page there is noted wrkn: 0880, maybe he could tell us were he have that from?

I thought the day for 3 years ago when I decided to have Jonsvatnet as a project to be small and easy, but the questions still coming :-) .

Have a good one Ed!

John Fredrik,

The W.Nr. displayed on Kjell's Flyvrak website is incomplete. The "0880" is the a/c type (Ju88) with an indication of other numbers (unknown) to follow. As far as I know, the W.Nr. of this a/c has not been determined. This will likely be one of our EoE Profile a/c, so determining the full W.Nr. and crew that flew it is pretty important. Since it is 4D+AM, this was likely flown, at least some of the time, by the StaKap.

Regards,

Re: JU88 4/KG30 4D+AM Jonsvatnet April 1940

Well, Kjell Flyvrack website number is my suggestion, it looks to me as coming from Bernburg, therefore 0880xxx where 0 (null) was for FZB (Bernburg). I too have same eBay 2008 pic somewhere. Maybe one day the full number might come.

But John, there were Four Ju 88 waiting for salvage about date 21.04.1940 in RAF HW5 "Ultra" message. They likely were U4+TK, 4D+AM, 4D+EM but fourth is unconfirmed, I had photo of this (code not visible) but seem have misplaced it.

Ed.
This was very thrilling, a forth Ju88..hmm.
You definately need to find that photo

I know there is photos RAF took on recon missions that shows a/c on the ice, but I have only found images taken from long way that don't tell much.

What is HW5 ultra message?
