Seeking ID of mystery pilot

Hello,

Some members of our EoE research team have been trying to ID this pilot for some time. These recently posted eBay images claim that it is Galland, but the person is next to a 4./JG3 a/c that had nothing to do with him. Moreover, if it is an Oblt., this probably can't be Galland as he became a Hptm probably before this photo was taken. We've eliminated Voigt and Kipper from 4./JG3, and this doesn't look like known photos of Georg Michalek, so who is he?

Re: Seeking ID of mystery pilot

Hello Larry,

this is Günther Scholz.
One of the pics can be found in the book "Am Himmel Europas; Der Jagdflieger Günther Scholz", page 188.
Why do You think the a/c in the background belongs to 4./JG 3 ??
He was Oberleutnant untill Nov. 41, in this time he held the positions of Kapitän 1./JG 21 and then 7./JG 54 but i think thats nothing new to You.

All the best

Norbert
