I could not find anything for 21-3-43 however GQM report dated 31-3-43 has on the 30-3-43 Do217 1443 of 2/NJG3 crashlanded at Wittmundhafen following engine fire 70% damage, with Bf Ofw Vetter injured.

Hi,

Could it be Leutnant Wilhelm Vetter, Staffelführer of 1./Schlachtgeschwader 2, missing in Tunisia on 22 March 1943 after being shot down by anti-aircraft fire? He was from Swabia.

Cheers,
Andrew A.

Re: hans vetter +++21.03.1943

I got a PM from lilsis which says it translates as 'My brother Hans and his cousin (Vetter = old German for cousin) Emil. so only the first names of the two airmen is known. Was the photo taken in April 1943 but notes the brother being involved in a crash on 21-3-1943 ?

No Hans was killed in 21. or 22.3.1942. However, in 20.3.1943 there were two:
1943-03-20, 2./JGr. Süd, Bf 109E-7, 6344, 11 rote
Lt Adam, Hans Flugzeugführer +
1943-03-20, FFS A/B 115, Ar 96B-1, 964096
Ogefr Diehl, Hans Flugschüler +

Re: hans vetter +++21.03.1943

Looking at the photo the man on the left is a Feldwebel of the Flight Section but I cannt make out his badge (Glider pilot ?) . The Obergefreiter wears the badge of a Beobachter, the silver(?) Transport mission badge plus EK1 and II. In conjunction with lilsis the writing translates to ''In remembering my brother Hans and cousin Emil - Hausern ? fatal crash 21-03-?? ''. If the card was written in April 1943 then the fatal crash would likely be 1943 if the photo was taken in April 43 then it would be a later year. Other writing shows copies were made in Feb.1945 possibly for a Frau Selzer of the Fw, possibly making him as being Fw Emil Selzer. Is anything known of such a crash on 21-3-43/44 in the Hausern ( or Klausern ) area of a Bo. Hans of the Transport Fliers,

Regards

Brian Bines

Hello Mike,

so the photo shows Hans and his cousin in April 1943.

Then later, on 21. March in the year 1943 or 1944 Hans was killed in an aircraft crash/accident.
