Need info on KG26 losses-damages at Kjevik AF near Kristiansand, Norway
Hello,
For profiling purposes, I'm trying to determine if a series of photos of 1./KG26 He111H aircraft and crack-ups reportedly taken at Kjevik AF near Kristiansand, Norway, were during 1940 or in 1941. I know that 2./KG26 was active at "Kristiansand" during the April 9, 1940, attack, but when was 1./KG26 actually based at Kjevik? I've run the EoE Luft loss DB for the location of both Kristiansand and Kjevik, and get no hits during 1940 for 1./KG26 for either place. My detailed DB does not go beyond 31.12.40, so can someone with entries during 1941 tell me if there are indications of losses or damages from either place during 1941? Also, does anyone know during what specific dates 1./KG26 was based at Kjevik airfield? This is one the extreme southern tip of Norway on the Skagerrak. Thanx in advance for any help. Regards, |

Hi,
I realized we had an old thread with information at LEMB with an indication that it could have been during the summer of 1940. http://www.luftwaffe-experten.org/fo...4992&hl=kjevik BR Goran |

Re: Need info on KG26 losses-damages at Kjevik AF near Kristiansand, Norway
Hello,
This info from "lilsis" and Chris confirms that 1./KG26 was active from the Kjevik/Kristiansand (Same place??) AF during the summer of 1940. However, I think it highly possible that 1./KG26 was also active from this AF in the summer of 1941, so we've got to be careful that we don't jump to conclusions too soon, especially since we can't so-far document this a/c damage/loss incident from Luftwaffe records. On a related topic, I'm trying to pick color profiles and complete the Luftwaffe photographic records for the 15.8.40 raid by LF V on the NE coast of England on 15.8.40. Are any photos known of this incident: "1H + GH damage 100% (FF) Uffz. Willi Zimmermann"? I've got a beautiful shot of this a/c (or one with the same code) in flight in the EoE DB, but none of the plane after it cracked up. Regards, |

Re: Need info on KG26 losses-damages at Kjevik AF near Kristiansand, Norway
Hello,
Referring to the related topic in my previous post, I now realize that this a/c was shot down into the sea. "lilsis" carries this in his notes above as 1H+GH, but we carry this in our EoE Luft Loss List as 1H+MH. Our info must derive from the K-Report from captured crewmember interrogations. Obviously my request for photos of the plane crash-landed back in Norway wouldn't be applicable, since the a/c crashed into Cresswell Bay off the NE Coast of England. Don't know where the info on this being 1H+GH comes from. Regards, |

Re: Need info on KG26 losses-damages at Kjevik AF near Kristiansand, Norway
Hello Larry,
Bill Norman's book "Luftwaffe losses over Nothumberland & Durham" ISBN 0850529131 reports the loss of Zimmermann's He111H-4 on pages 59-60 including pictures of 1H+GH with his mechanic, an air photo of 1H+DH and also has a 4 page personal account on pages 62-65 of this mechanic Gefr. Alwin Machalett which includes a photo of Uffz. Willi Zimmermann and his observer Oblt. Rudolf Roch being marched through Amble. I am not sure if you have this book, but you should also have Norman's other book "Luftwaffe Losses over Yorkshire" ISBN 0850527961. Both are very good. Regards Peter Werry |

Re: Need info on KG26 losses-damages at Kjevik AF near Kristiansand, Norway
Hi Larry,
15.08.1940 The Air Ministry Daily report filed by the RAF Y Intel Branch before 18.00 hours has some details of the air-combat and afterwards when they've picked up conversations. Also 14.55 on 15 August 1940, three Blenheim fighters of 235 clashed with elements of KG26 near Horns Reef. There is a 20 line combat report in AM daily report. Regards Andy B. |

Andy B.,
Might it be possible to obtain a copy of the communications intercept report from you regarding the 15.8.40 mission? I'd like to evaluate whether it adds anything to what I already have on this mission. Regards, |
