Uffz S. Huber July 17 1940
Acording to de Deutsche Dienststelle, Huber was a pilot with 11./LG.1 and died on this day.
Does anyone know what plane he was flying (Ju-87?), werknummer, etc. And who were his fellow crewman. What was their target and who shot them down. Any help would be apriciated Dennis |

Re: Uffz S. Huber July 17 1940
Uffz Sebastian Huber and Uffz Heinz Hecke were flying a Ju 87B. They were lost during a raid against ships near Portland.

Re: Uffz S. Huber July 17 1940
Nothing on the 17 but the WASt has a Uffz Sebastian Huber shown as killed the 14th and buried in Netherlands.
On this date 11./LG 1 lost a Ju 87B shot down by Hurricanes flown by Gayner, Collard and Hugo of 615 Sqn (according to Mason's "Battle over Britain") near Dover at 15.09 hrs. The pilot was Oblt Sonnberg (killed) and the gunner was missing (no name given in book). It was probably Huber. By the way the IV./LG 1 Stukas were attacking a convoy off Dover under fighter escort and Hurricanes intercepted. A BBC journalist was commenting the action on the radio from Dover cliffs ! Losses were one Hurricane and one Stuka. There is an Oblt Kurt Sonnberg buried in Bourdon, Northern France, who died on 14 July. |

![]() Laurent you are right again. I think I will have my fingers rewirred. It is the 14th. Huber is recorded as a flugzeugfuhrer. Could it be that he was a pilot acting as a gunner for the ocasion.
Thanks for your input, Dennis |

Re: Uffz S. Huber July 17 1940
Gentlemen, two Ju87Bs of 11.(St)/LG1 were lost over the Channel off Dover on 14 July 1940. The crews were Oberlt Kurt SONNBERG & Uffz Fritz DONATH, and Uffz Sebastian HUBER & Uffz Heinz HECKE. The body of SONNBERG was brought ashore at Boulogne by the SND & HUBER washed up later on the Dutch coast. For a full transcript of the BBC Radio commentary by Charles Gardner see Blitz Vol.1 pp138/9. The attached memorial card was recently auctioned on eBay.
