JG 77 total claims in WW2

How many victories did JG 77 claim during the whole war?
Thanks in advance.

Approximately 4,564. Likely incomplete due to loss of records.

Re: JG 77 total claims in WW2

Hi

I have 3793 including those u/c, should imagine there were a few hundred possibly more in the period December 1944 until April 1945. I also do not have many of the u/c, so possible the 4564 is claims not victories?

Others units i found in four figures are:-

JG52= 10724
JG54= 8956
JG51=8826
JG3=6720
JG53=3743
JG27=2935
JG26=2670
JG2=2526
JG5=2460
NJG1=2008
JG11=1046
NJG2=1034

All these figures are based on claims not victories, and then evidence based not estimates, or loss figures. Please note that many of JG5's earlier claims are missing, as are all most units for 1945 with the possible exceptions of the Nightfighter units JG26 and JG27 which are almost complete!

Kind regards

Johannes

We could argue for hours but basically I have approximate figures that match yours (except for JG 77 - hence my querry).
Of course, the mayhem of the last months of the war is responsible of these discrepancies.
In fact, John's answer stating "approximately 4,564" looks like an oxymoron to me (:smiley.

Not quite sure what you mean Chris, but my numbers are based on Tony Wood's list, supplemented by other sources. They are "claims" and not necessarily "victories".

Re: JG 77 total claims in WW2

What I mean is that we all know that Tony Wood's lists, however helpful they are - and they are - are incomplete. Many gaps can be found when compared to what Jochen Prien (Winfried Bock's work) published. For instance, many JG 54 claims are not included for the year 1943. Furthermore, they do not include 1945.
Tony Wood's lists are a sound basis to work from but definitely not the gospels.
