![]() Hello people of the 12 'o Clock High forums!
I've just been approved for membership and I am excited. I love flying. I love World War 2 aviation dearly. I live in southern Missouri and I'm probably among the youngest members here. Anyway, down to business... The Bf-109 is one of my favorite planes of the war. I'd always wanted to know how much one would cost to have built. Since there aren't many for sale.... This would be a dream even to own a full size replica. I've seen Fw-190 Replicas online for sale. Warbirds themselves seem to cost an arm, leg, head, spine, foot, and lung just to get one. I'm not quite old enough to buy one but it's one of my goals in life to get my pilot's license and own a plane. If this Bf-109 build isn't possible...okay then. Hypothetically speaking, what would something like this cost? And this looks like a promising forum! ![]() |

Re: New Here and have a Bf-109 Question
Hi there Redoctober1984,
That's a great idea you have there... Try having one of the extinct subtypes built like a Bf 109 G-14 or K-4;-)). As for the cost figure, remember that back in 1944, you could have afforded one for "only" 58600 Reichsmark... And welcome in the forum; it's a great place to frequent! Marc |

58600 Reichsmark? What does that convert to today's dollar I wonder.... Probably not cheap. I'd love to have the G or K model...Heck...I'd be happy with any model...except the F, B, C, and the other early ones. |

Re: New Here and have a Bf-109 Question
You're welcome!
As for the value of a Reichsmark, in 1940, a dollar was worth 2.5 Reichsmark. Beware the inflations since then though;-)) Those 1940 23'440 USD would bring today the solid figure of 295'668 2011 USD... Cheers Marc |

Re: New Here and have a Bf-109 Question
Haha. That's cheaper than a new Cessna 172!
Of couse somebody would need to make a profit so it would be probably sold for a lot more than that. |

Re: New Here and have a Bf-109 Question
I saw P-51s and Spifires for sale on Trade-a-Plane for 2-3 million dollars...But to have one of those....
That would be a dream...I love WW2 planes...one of the coolest parts of military history is the Air War |

Re: New Here and have a Bf-109 Question
You know it wouldn't surprise me if we'd get much more "affordable" replicas in the future.
If we look at rc a/c we've seen a shift towards electric and foam when it comes to relatively cheap yet realistic looking warbirds. Future materials and powerplants will likely open up the possibility of recreating - at least on the outside, but built from plastics and carbon - many of the warbirds we love. Perhaps even coming close to their real performance figures. Electric powerplants, why not? Ps. As long as we are dreaming, I'd start with a Fokker D.VII or Albatros D.V before looking at a WW2 warbird ![]()

Re: New Here and have a Bf-109 Question
I saw a Fw-190 2/3 scale flyable replica one time for $50,000. I thought, it's almost worth it....
